The tape storage facilities at HPC2N are based on an IBM TS3500 tape library which currently contains six IBM LTO Ultrium 5 tape drives, each capable of storing 1500GB  uncompressed data per tape at the transfer speed of 140MB/s. The library can hold 2000 tapes.

Archive and backup data for various SNIC projects and resources are stored in the tape library. It's also used for data archiving in the WLCG project.

The hardware in the Swegrid project is financed by a donation from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation. Operational costs and personnel for support and maintenance are funded by the Swedish research council (VR) via SNIC. VR is also funding research targeted toward grid within the framework of Swegrid. SNIC is coordinator of Swegrid operation.
